Consciously Question: Crystalize Your Perspective

Jan 17, 2019

Master Buddha said, “Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your common sense.”

Just as no one else can tell you which crystal you will work best with to enable your most authentic experience, no one else can tell you what belief systems resonate most closely with your authentic—transparent—self. In other words, although we are aware of our views and consequent interactions with our surroundings and with others, we are not fully aware of what resonates with our authentic essence because we have learned to identify with others’ information, rather than information that is transparently our own.

Are you responding to situations in your immediate environment and to the world as a whole based on your transparent self? Or are old patterns based on beliefs that don’t belong to you influencing your thoughts, emotions, and actions?

Having been exposed to so much suffering throughout my life, I went in search of solutions almost twenty-five years ago. I learned that the mind was very involved in this process of suffering. But more than the mind was what was stored inside of it—all the information that was inauthentic for me. In 2000, during my visit to an ashram in India, I was blessed to come across two tools that would transform the course of my life. The first was crystals; the second—to consciously question.

In a world where you are constantly bombarded by opinions from family and friends, as well as political, religious, community, and social influencers, it is important to recognize your own truth. After going through a deep process of self-questioning, I realized that truth is not necessarily the opinion of one person; nor is it necessarily the opinion of the majority. Truth is what you resonate with beyond your learned beliefs; that is why it is so important to learn to filter information. When you consciously filter information, you are able to synchronize the external information you receive with your inner truth—this is what Buddha’s words refer to.

One way to filter external information is to examine all the information you receive in the light of a process of consciously questioning it and yourself. Questioning is an art that you can develop over time; it can help you to discern which parts of the information you receive (and are allowing into your unconscious) are not authentically yours and to identify the many sources from which they originate.

According to Buddhism, true wisdom is not simply believing what we are told but, instead, experiencing and understanding truth and reality. Real wisdom requires an open, objective, and unbiased mind. From this perspective, real illumination is a process by which we illuminate or educate ourselves about the hidden or unconscious.

To know what resonates with us, we must know ourselves, which means knowing our unconscious and consciously choosing the best content options. How can we come to know the unconscious by questioning ourselves? Sometimes in our daily lives, we face situations that make us uncomfortable. Although the origin seems external, our external experiences mirror our inner content and trigger automatic reaction to it. Therefore, the disturbance caused by any external situation has an internal origin and is an opportunity that life offers us to unveil what is hidden inside us.

Consciously questioning, together with the amplifying property of crystals, can help you recognize patterns of thoughts and limiting beliefs so you can consciously transcend and resonate with the most authentic, transparent part of yourself.

Asking questions can also help you determine whether the pattern has been repeated in other contexts and to find similarities between your current situation and other situations you’ve been in. Doing so will help you crystallize your perspective and, thus, avoid repeating patterns in your life without question.

In addition, our unconscious chooses to reject or resist new or different concepts. We accept anything that resonates with the programming in our unconscious, while rejecting everything that does not resonate with that programming. Both questioning yourself in order to discover where your patterns come from and questioning the viewpoints espoused by others will help you crystallize your perspective. This will help ensure that you are interacting with others and with your surroundings based on your most transparent self.
